The flowers I received on the day my mom passed were bright, cheerful, and just a bit whimsical.

Three days later, I put paint to canvas and began rolling it. Rolling the paint became an act of surrender, allowing blends, contrasts, and patterns to emerge that I could never have planned. In the end, the flat paint always has the final say.
