Blue Clouds, White Sky began with leftover blue paint and a reversal of something familiar. Instead of blue sky and white clouds, I wanted the clouds to be blue against a white sky.
I dipped pieces of leftover dried blue paint into watered-down white latex paint, then attached them across the surface. The white softened some of the blue while emphasizing all the folds, ridges and irregular shapes of the paint remnants.
I liked turning something recognizable upside down without trying to make a literal sky. The materials created their own strange little cloud formations—and Blue Clouds, White Sky became exactly what its title suggests.
