Confetti Cake began with Brigham’s peppermint stick ice cream in mind. I layered white and pink paint across the surface, then used forks to pull through the thick paint, creating long, frosting-like ridges. As the paint dried, deep cracks and fissures appeared on their own, adding another layer of texture I never could have planned.
The painting sat for months before I returned to it. I loved the texture but wanted to bring more life to the surface, so I added small bursts of bright spring color and touches of silver. What had begun as peppermint stick ice cream suddenly reminded me of something entirely different—confetti scattered across a frosted cake.
I love looking into the cracks, ridges, and little flashes of color. The closer I get, the more there is to discover.
Sometimes a little more color changes the whole celebration.
