Peeking Through

I set out to create a spring flower, but I became frustrated with how the painting was developing. It wasn’t working.

Rather than abandon it, I decided to cover the surface with flat black paint. I knew some of the texture and color underneath might survive, but I didn’t know exactly what would happen.

As the black settled across the textured surface, patterns from the original painting remained visible and tiny hints of orange, yellow and green continued to peek through.

What had frustrated me became the foundation for something entirely different.

It became Peeking Through.
