Winter sunsets on Cape Cod have a quiet beauty. They don’t demand attention, yet they always seem to stop me in my tracks.
As I layered warm reds, oranges, and pinks across the canvas, I began shaving back the surface with a razor. Rather than taking the beauty away, each pass revealed subtle colors and textures that had been hidden beneath, creating depth through subtraction instead of addition.
This painting reminds me that sometimes the most beautiful moments aren’t loud or dramatic. They reveal themselves slowly, asking only that we pause long enough to notice.
