I Really Don’t Care began with another drip painting underneath it. Rather than discard the earlier work, I painted over it, allowing bits of the original color and texture to remain and add another layer of depth.
I continued adding paint and tilting the canvas, letting the drips travel in different directions. Eventually it became difficult to tell which side was supposed to be the top.
And I realized I really didn’t care. I liked the painting vertically, upside down and even sideways. There was no reason to decide which direction was “right.” It can be hung in whatever orientation feels right—which is exactly how I Really Don’t Care got its name.
