This year my annual Wimbledon piece represents the 54,000 tennis balls used at Wimbledon. The grass courts take such a beating at the baseline, but as the tournament enters the second week, the grass dries and soil compacts, creating higher bounces and more topspin. I had no idea how many “ball marks” I placed on this canvas, but by the end of Wimbledon, it felt like a few thousand.
